The body of the customer service cover letter is where you expand on your skills, expertise, and accomplishments related to the specific job opening.

An effective approach is to break into it three different sections:

  1. Why you. Outline your customer service background, with particular focus on key achievements, skills, and expertise. Providing examples of your achievements with the all-important facts and figures is key. Increasing customer satisfaction to 90% by consistently exceeding client expectations or proactively offering add-on services and achieving a 30% increase in sales revenue will communicate the value you can bring to the organization.  

  2. Why here. Companies are looking for customer service professionals who are passionate about their brand. Research your target company’s website and social media platforms so you can connect your expertise to their vision and values via your customer service cover letter. 

  3. Why now. Storytelling is a great way to connect on a personal level with a company or role. What has prompted you to make this move in your career? What do you hope to achieve in future? Maybe you’re hoping to complete training and move into more senior-level roles with the company. Conveying these goals will highlight your passion and commitment.

Don’t be too salesy in your customer service cover letter. You want to show your passion for products, services, and the company, but don’t go overboard! For example, saying you’re obsessed with the product and can’t live without it won’t come across as well as a personal connection to the product and appreciation for your customer service experience.

How to write a customer service cover letter closing

The closing section of your customer service cover letter (much like a sale) needs to persuade the hiring manager to give you a shot. This is also a golden opportunity to deliver a strong finish to your cover letter. This doesn’t need to be a long paragraph (a couple sentences is fine). Here’s some inspiration:

  • Outline a special achievement or skill. This should demonstrate the impact you will have in the customer service role: “I understand that every interaction I make with a customer is critical to exceeding expectations and fostering long-term loyalty.” 

  • Include a Call to Action. Encourage them to take your application to the next level: “I look forward to speaking with you and learning more about the (Position Title) position and (Company Name). Until then, thank you for your time and consideration.”
