A painter’s main goal is to provide protection and painting services to both interior and exterior surfaces. They can be responsible for providing services for residential or commercial properties, or a combination of the two. It is also a painter’s responsibility to protect all other items in the area that do not require painting, such as the floor, cabinets, light fixtures, outlets, and other items that can’t easily be removed. Painters may work full-time or part-time and may be employed as either a contractor or traditional employee.
In the first section of this painter resume example, you will find a summary section that begins with a paragraph outlining overall skills and qualifications. This summary concludes with a list of core competencies where you can list your hard skills, such as renovation projects and cost control. This section is especially beneficial to a painter because it allows you to showcase your collection of skills and competencies in the industry. The summary is designed for candidates to position themselves as an experienced painter through the use of keywords and industry-specific skills.
Having the skills section right at the beginning allows you to show exactly what you bring to the table. Instead of a potential hiring manager needing to weed through your professional experience section to find relevant skills, they can find them right from the beginning.
The professional experience section effectively allows you to dive deeper into your experience as a painter and provide tangible examples of your experience. You can also expand on construction-related skills you may have, such as repairing drywall and refinishing cabinets. In this example, you’ll see each job entry has a paragraph for your day-to-day job tasks. This is followed by a bulleted list where you can highlight achievements or specific projects.
At the end of the resume, you can list any higher education coursework, on-the-job training courses, and/or professional certifications.
