A job in management requires a broad range of skills. You have to be able to manage a lot of things, most importantly people. Your manager resume must show that you have the appropriate skills to get the job done, including being able to manage your team, supporting staff, and customer relationships. Make sure to cover all these things in your resume, but keep it all concise and on topic for the job you are seeking.

How to write a great manager resume

A good resume writing strategy is to start with a generic template allows you to lay out all of your information, skills, education, and experience in a good and easy to read format. A reverse chronological order is a typical format for most resumes. Once you have a solid foundation, then you need to carefully review the job description for the role you are applying. Make note of the skills and experiences they are looking for.

Write an entry for each of your relevant work experiences as well as internships, professional memberships, and volunteer work. Don’t spend a lot of words on describing daily tasks. Keep this very brief and focus on telling them about your achievements and positive impacts on the organization. Try to include quantifiable results with the numbers. Anything with dollars is great (money made or saved).  If you have a lot of experience, stick to the last ten years of experience. If you have room, you can include one-liners for any jobs that are older. Older jobs that are not directly relevant to your new job or career can be left off. 

Craft all the sections of your resume to fit the job requirements. Keep everything short and to the point, but make sure to use appropriate keywords while avoiding technical jargon or acronyms. Use bullet points to make sections easily readable. When you are done, proofread and then proofread again. You do not want any typos, misspellings, or grammatical errors. Remember that you are trying to convince them to hire you. Be truthful, but punch up your experience as much as possible. Don’t be humble, show them why you are a great catch!

Putting skills on your resume is a balancing act. You have a lot of skills to offer, but you need to keep the list of skills on your resume short to not overwhelm the reader. Study the job description you are applying for and list skills that are most relevant to the job.
