Why use this electrician resume example?
Typically, electricians do not need a lengthy and verbose resume. A resume with a strong introduction and specific sections dedicated to key skills, professional experience, and education/licenses should be sufficient.
Unlike other careers, electrician jobs tend to be skill-focused rather than education-focused. In most cases, electricians require a high school diploma. For this reason, it’s fine to have the education section toward the end of the resume. However, most states require job applicants to be licensed electricians, so you’ll have to look into the licensing requirements in your states.
You may also be required to complete an electrician apprenticeship program that could take three to four years and allow you to accumulate up to 8000 hours of professional experience.
This resume template builds up on your job-related skills and professional experience to help you take your career to the next level.
How to write a great electrician resume
Like all well-written resumes, an electrician resume begins with your name and contact details. Next, you will need a resume title to let the hiring manager know which job you’re applying to. For example, if your target job role is “Electrical technician”, then your resume title should not say “Electrician.”
After mentioning your contact details and resume title, you need an introduction paragraph. This paragraph can be 1-3 lines that talk about the number of years of experience you have and your core competencies (such as troubleshooting electrical systems, designing grids and circuits, etc.).
Next, your professional experience section should be written in reverse chronology. Each job detail should include daily responsibilities and key accomplishments. It’s best to quantify each accomplishment, if possible, and relate it to the job you’re applying for.
After mentioning your professional experience, you’ll need to talk about your education. If you have a license, you can mention your license number here. Similarly, you can talk about any technical training courses you’ve completed. While an undergraduate degree is not required, having one will significantly increase your chances of securing employment.
