Delivery Driver resume example & writing guide

Delivery drivers play a crucial role in the supply chain operations of any organization, delivering everything from restaurant take-outs to complex machinery. Your delivery driver resume should focus on your customer service skills, ability to meet deadlines, and owning a valid driver’s license. Some organizations also require the applicant to have their own vehicle.

How to write a great Delivery Driver resume

Delivery driver jobs are ideal for students looking for part-time jobs as well as people who don’t have a college degree. Working as a delivery driver is also a good way to make some extra income to supplement your regular full-time job salary or to make ends meet while you’re actively looking for a job in your field of expertise.

The resume begins with an objective statement that focuses on your previous delivery driver roles, experience in customer service, and strong communication skills. This is immediately followed by the core competencies/skills section, which includes your driving experience and ability to follow traffic rules and regulations. If your employer requires you to have a valid driving license, it should be included in this section.

In the professional experience section, talk about your previous roles. Your job duties should focus on any deliveries you made at your previous jobs and how your deliveries contributed to the organization’s revenue growth. Use hard data whenever possible for your accomplishments.

If you have a college degree, license, or certification, you can mention it in your education section at the end of the resume. You should also list any staff training or road safety training initiatives undertaken. Most delivery driver jobs do not require a formal education, so if you have one you’re at an advantage.

A delivery driver resume does not need to be lengthy. You can use a two-column template to showcase your professional experience and skills side-by-side.

Before applying for a delivery driver position, make sure you don’t have any DUI histories. Your potential employer is likely to perform a background check before hiring you so if you have a past criminal record, you may want to consult with a legal expert on how to get it expunged.
