Description

Youth Camp Leader will oversee the successful planning and execution of all summer camp programs. This position will work collaboratively with Recreation Coordinator, and community partners to create an engaging, safe, and enriching experience for campers.

Essential Job Functions

Designs and implements a diverse range of activities for campers, including arts and crafts, sports, and outdoor education, ensuring they are age-appropriate and engaging. Supervise camp counselors and interns, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure a high-quality camp experience. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to health and safety regulations, conducting regular safety drills, and promptly addressing any issues.

Acts as the primary point of contact for campers’ families, providing updates on activities and addressing any concerns or questions. Manage the daily operations of the camp, including scheduling, supply management, and facility maintenance. Collect feedback from campers and staff to assess program effectiveness and contribute to future improvements. Collaborate with local organizations to enhance programming and foster community connections.

Monitors and cleans Parks and Recreation Department facilities during scheduled programs. Provides instruction to patrons at recreation programs. Provides excellent customer service by responding to customers' questions and needs. Assists with various recreation program duties including opening, closing and operation of programs, leagues, tournaments or special events. Works special events as assigned. This position serves as support to athletics, recreation programs, special events and the parks division as needed and may receive direction from personnel within any of these divisions.

Performs other duties as assigned. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or GED and 6 months of experience related to youth programming and/or recreation, preferably in a youth camp or public recreation facility setting.

Depending on the assignment, some knowledge of general sports rules (basketball, softball, volleyball, and football), recreation programming concepts. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform cash handling duties, accurately count money and make change. Ability to use a calculator and do basic math functions. Must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Must have good written and oral communication skills and be able to deal effectively with the public. Ability to use the computer and applicable computer programs. Ability to work outdoors as required.

Other Requirements

Valid driver's license required. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt.

Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays depending on scheduled programs. Certification in First Aid, CPR, AED, or completion of certification within six months of employment.
