The Orthopedic Workers Compensation Coordinator plays a critical role in managing workers’ compensation cases within the orthopedic practice. This individual ensures timely and accurate handling of all workers' compensation-related tasks, including processing claims, scheduling appointments, obtaining authorizations, and coordinating between patients, medical providers, insurance adjusters, attorneys, and employers. The role requires a strong understanding of workers' compensation laws, exceptional organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for workers' compensation patients.
Manage the workflow of workers’ compensation cases from the initial referral through to resolution.
Ensure that all medical treatment is authorized and maintain ongoing communication with patients regarding their treatment plans and progress.
Authorization & Documentation
Obtain pre-authorization for diagnostic tests, treatments, surgeries, and other medical services related to workers' compensation claims.
Ensure that all documentation, including medical reports, referrals, and progress notes, are submitted in a timely manner to insurance companies, employers, and attorneys.
Maintain and update patient files with accurate information.
Scheduling
Coordinate appointments, diagnostic tests, and follow-up visits for workers’ compensation patients.
Work closely with medical staff to ensure all necessary medical documentation is provided for patient visits.
Communication
Act as a liaison between the patient, medical providers, insurance carriers, and attorneys to ensure all parties are informed and involved in the patient's care.
Communicate effectively with patients regarding their rights, responsibilities, and the status of their workers’ compensation cases.
Compliance
Stay informed of state and federal workers’ compensation regulations and ensure all processes are compliant.
Ensure that all workers' compensation cases adhere to HIPAA and other confidentiality requirements.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
High school diploma or GED required
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical office setting, with specific experience in workers' compensation preferred.
Familiarity with orthopedic terminology and procedures is a plus.
Skills:
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage relationships with patients, medical staff, and external parties.
Ability to multitask and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
Proficient in medical billing software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, regulations, and best practices.
Pay Range: $23.00-$24.00 per hour
