The Lead Welding Instructor will teach all levels of workforce development welding courses and will provide oversight and guidance for welding staff, instruction, and coordination for all current and future VPCC welding courses. This position is also responsible for revising course content as needed, instructional consistency, instructor training, procurement and engagement with employer partners.
* This is a full-time restricted classified position. Continuation of employment is based on funding availability. *
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
* Extensive experience using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes.
* Some experience as a pipe welder.
* High School graduate or equivalent.
* Demonstrated experience in teaching or training in a professional or academic setting.
* Extensive relevant work experience as a welder or as a Welding Instructor.
* Any AWS Certification or the ability to earn it in the first 30 days.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of fillet welds in all positions using the SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.
* Knowledge of groove welds with backing plate using the SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.
* Knowledge of groove welds without backing plate using the SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.
* Knowledge of open-root pipe using SMAW and GTAW processes.
* Knowledge of setup and operation of Oxyacetylene Welding and Cutting and Plasma Cutting equipment.
* Knowledge of weld joint geometry and welding terminology.
* Knowledge of basic welding drawings and Welding Symbols.
* Knowledge of safe work practices in the welding field.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.
Skills
* Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
