Job Description
Syracuse University is seeking a skilled Web Developer with full stack development experience. They will join the broader digital development team within the Division of Marketing to help develop and maintain the central web presence of Syracuse University, Syracuse.edu. This position is also responsible for developing and maintaining the code that controls a shared codebase used on other University websites. The Web Developer position will work closely with the UI/UX Designer to ensure front-end usability, design and accessibility requirements are met.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of education and documented professional work experience.
- Three (3) plus years of documented professional work experience related to web design, development, and maintenance.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong knowledge and experience designing and developing user interfaces.
- Proficiency in using semantic HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern front-end frameworks to develop clean, maintainable code.
- Extensive experience developing open-source CMS, such as WordPress or Drupal.
- Proven ability to design and develop in a manner that pays close attention to accessibility (WCAG 2.x).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others and independently as necessary
- Must be able to evaluate issues and offer recommendations for solutions
- Must be able to provide examples of previous work and walk through approach and responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Syracuse.edu and other flagship digital properties of Syracuse University
- Assist with development and maintenance of code for centrally supported themes, templates and applications distributed across the University
- Work closely with the UI/UX Designer to ensure front-end usability, design and accessibility requirements are met
- Collaborate with the Digital team and campus partners to help identify on-going functional needs and optimizations to framework
- Research and share best practices and ahead-of-the-curve technologies
- Other duties as assigned
