Brief Description
Responsible for the planning, design, and management of water-related infrastructure and systems. In addition to projects involving distribution (wells, piping, pumping, pressure zones, and reservoiring), recycled water use, turf, and garden irrigation.
What You'll Be Doing
- Identifies water infrastructure maintenance needs. Researches new methods and materials. Oversees design and constructability.
- Reviews construction documents, including technical drawings and project specifications for domestic and recycled water distribution, water tanks, pumps, and SCADA projects for all Forest Lawn cemeteries.
- Leads a team of irrigation design professionals to produce plans for ongoing cemetery development projects.
- Experience in working with electrical engineers to coordinate pump equipment and demand load.
- Assists in preparation of project budgets, contract documents, specifications, construction inspection and system testing. Selects consultants, vendors, and supervises their work product.
- Provides master plan direction for Forest Lawn's facilities infrastructure, including new recycled water and domestic water distribution systems for future development, and identifies infrastructure upgrades on existing pump and water systems.
- Responsible for projects involving distribution (wells, piping, pumping, pressure zones, and reservoiring), recycled water use, turf, and garden irrigation.
- Supervises the work of Forest Lawn and third-party consultant water system designers during the preparation of studies, drawings, and specifications for water system construction.
- Represents Forest Lawn with public agencies and water purveyors. Obtains plan check approval and encroachment permits from municipalities, counties’/cities’ public works and building and safety departments for water system projects.
- Maintains records of water use at all cemeteries, recommends water use based on CIMIS information, and distributes monitoring reports to parks and upper management. Provides training for Operations personnel on water conservation practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or any water science related degree required.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a Water Systems Engineer or in a related field.
- CA State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade Certificate preferred.
- Valid California Driver’s License, including state required levels of active auto insurance.
- Expertise in irrigation systems, turf, and garden irrigation design, and water conservation practices.
- Familiarity with CIMIS and its application to water use recommendations.
- AutoCAD experience required, particularly with schematic and diagrammatic drawings, scaled plan drawings, scaled mechanical and civil engineering details, use of dimensioning, and creation and manipulation of highly formatted drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams including internal staff and external consultants/vendors.
- Proficiency in reading and reviewing technical drawings, construction documents, and project specifications.
- Strong knowledge of permitting processes with municipalities and public agencies.
- Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects and produce quality results within deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a hybrid setting and travel to multiple locations around Southern California.

Drug Testing Policy
