Job Summary
The
Water Resources Designer (EIT) will join our team in Raleigh, NC to support the design of infrastructure projects in the Southeast. As part of our team, you will work closely with Project Engineers on Design-Bid-Build alternative delivery infrastructure projects to provide technical planning, design, and construction support for hydrologic and hydraulic models, erosion control, stormwater abatement, and green infrastructure on highway, bridge, municipal street, and pedestrian projects.
The Water Resource Designer (EIT) position involves coordinating drainage design activities, conducting field investigations, preparing specifications, developing cost estimates, and reviewing design work to ensure compliance with DOT regulations. Utilizing proficiency in MicroStation, GEOPAK drainage, and/or Open Roads Designer (ORD), the individual will generate drainage designs, profiles, stormwater alleviation, and pavement drainage solutions. This role primarily supports Project Engineers in the hydrological and hydraulic aspects of transportation infrastructure projects. Responsibilities include collaborating with Project Engineers to design drainage systems for highway and bridge construction projects, conducting engineering calculations, and developing hydrologic and hydraulic models. Additionally, the role entails preparing designs in accordance with state stormwater management plan requirements and participating in field investigations, occasionally involving travel within the Southeast region. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, analysis, and management of drainage systems while ensuring compliance with local, State DOT, and DHEC regulations.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in hydrology and hydraulics.
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritizing client satisfaction.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A valid Driver’s License and safe driving record are required.
- Familiarity with software such as MicroStation, GEOPAK, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TR-20, FHWA Hydraulics Toolbox, HY8, etc., is advantageous.
- Proficiency in hydrology and hydraulics modeling.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
- Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
Education And Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Entry Level to 4 years of experience in water resources engineering.
- Must have EIT certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Experience with Department of Transportation design principles is desired. Familiarity with NCDOT, SCDOT, and GDOT design principles is preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods.
Expected Hours of Work
The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule. This is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office 5 days per week.
