TITLE: Vice President /Controller


REPORTS TO: President & CEO


SUMMARY: The VP/Controller of Finance at Wellspring is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the company’s financial statements by ensuring compliance with regulations, managing risk, and establishing financial controls. The VP/Controller will be an instrumental leader of our organization, responsible for spearheading our financial growth and health. You will oversee all aspects of the organization’s finances, including Wellspring Endowment, capital assets and investments, as well as all financial reporting. Partnering with the CEO, the Board, and the Finance Committee, you will be responsible for formulating financial strategies to sustain Wellspring’s mission and execute the organization's strategic priorities.

The VP/Controller will lead and manage the organization’s accounting and financial function. The role requires an in-depth understanding of GAAP, industry regulations, and trends, and a strong attention to detail.

VP/Controller Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops financial well-being of the organization by providing financial projections and accounting services, preparing growth plans, and directing staff.
  • Develops finance organizational strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction and establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives.
  • Establishes finance operational strategies by evaluating trends, establishing critical measurements, resolving problems, and implementing change.
  • Develops financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying monetary resources; and developing action plans.
  • Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Maximizes return on invested funds by identifying investment opportunities while minimizing associated risk. Maintains strong relationships with all current financial institutions and South Shore financial community.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and presents financial reports that enable the organization to make sound business decisions, in addition to ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Accomplishes finance human resource strategies by determining accountabilities; communicating and enforcing values, policies, and procedures; and planning and reviewing compensation strategies.
  • Reports financial status by developing forecasts, reporting results, analyzing variances, and developing improvements.
  • Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ Non-Profit accounting experience
  • Certified Public Accountant certification a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in accounting and financial management practices.
  • Experience in a senior management position.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Solid GAAP and financial reporting technical skills.

The VP/Controller is a full-time, senior-level employee expected to work 35 hours per week. Flexibility exists for partial remote work schedule. Competitive salary and benefits. Currently, the office is located in Hull, MA, with an expected relocation to Weymouth, MA, within 6 months.
