Description: American Water Works Association (AWWA) is the authoritative resource on safe water, providing knowledge, information and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of water in North America and beyond. AWWA advances public health, safety and welfare by uniting efforts of the full spectrum of the water community.

The AWWA Engineering & Technical Services (ETS) Department employs 25 knowledgeable staff members who oversee the core technical programs and content developed by our volunteers. This staff group consists of experts in drinking water, wastewater, reuse and stormwater treatment and management. Together ETS staff work to expand the Association’s knowledge and educational resources to include additional drinking water and one water solutions in response to member needs.

ETS is seeking a motivated Volunteer Management Intern to support and enhance our volunteer engagement and management processes. The intern will manage volunteer inquiries, support membership engagement, and coordinate volunteer projects to ensure a seamless and rewarding experience for our volunteers.

The selected candidate will support activities related to volunteer onboarding and support, AWWA membership engagement, volunteer project coordination and presenting and reporting. Gain hands-on experience in volunteer management and nonprofit operations. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit management, human resources, customer service or related field.
  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required; NetSuite preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-directed; able to work independently and as a member of a team and to foster a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities with shifting time frames, and meet deadlines; high degree of initiative, urgency, and follow through
  • Volunteer management or nonprofit work is a plus

Duration: June to September with possibility to extend.

Wage/Salary Information: $21 - $24 per hour, based on background and experience

Schedule: & Location: This position can be full-time or part-time hours. We have a hybrid schedule that allows 3 days in the office and up to 2 days remote.
