ABOUT THE ROLE 

We are the makers of What If, and we are looking for an experienced video editor to help us elevate our YouTube videos. You’ll be responsible for creating a mix of video essays and documentary-style videos that engage our audiences. These videos will include field reporting, talking heads, interviews, experiments, and more.

NOTE: This role is only for permanent residents in Ontario, Canada. Applicants that don’t reside in Ontario won’t be considered. 

ABOUT YOU

• You are passionate about science and naturally curious
• You have a strong reel that accurately reflects your video editing skills
• You can create hooks and story arcs with video retention in mind
• You have strong experience in documentary style and YouTube editing
• You have a proven track record of editing breakout YouTube videos (share examples)
• You have a keen eye for creative content and create cinematic videos that resonate with our audience
• You’re a natural storyteller and think visually
• You are receptive to feedback and communicate clearly
• You have excellent time-managing skills and the ability to prioritize effectively
• You are interested in space and sci-fi
• Located in Ontario, Canada

QUALIFICATIONS YOU BRING

• Expert knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects
• Experience producing documentary and explainer videos for social media
• Knowledge of After Effects, including tools like Element3D, VC Orb, Mocha
• Ability to efficiently work remotely without direct supervision
• Ability to communicate effectively and timely, working as part of a team
• Ability to effectively story edit real-life footage 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with the Showrunner and our team of VFX artists to create engaging, high-quality content for YouTube
• Produce rough cuts, graphic design elements, sound design, colour correction, and deliver the final project
• Make creative video editing decisions to create a video that resonates with our audiences
• Develop your own Essential Graphics in Adobe After Effects
• Create explainer graphics in Adobe After Effects
• Work with a surplus of filmed footage to create engaging field report segments 
• Solve creative and technical problems
• Implement changes based on Showrunner’s feedback
