Summary

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is seeking a talented and driven engineer to join the Systems Test & Integration department in their chassis dynamometer lab.  The Vehicle Test Automation Engineer will play a key role in developing and integrating systems to test vehicle software, and will be responsible for supporting the efficiency of daily test operations and ensuring quality of results.  This position requires collaboration with other internal teams at Rivian, as well as a passion to continually improve and advance our testing capabilities.  The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment where bringing creative solutions to life is highly encouraged.

 

  • Support the execution of vehicle-level software validation testing on chassis dynamometers across several vehicle platforms
  • Lead the development and integration of new test hardware, software, & sensors to unlock additional automated testing capabilities
  • Define additional test cases to be automated using our hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) equipment and document outlined procedures in Jama
  • Identify and advocate for process improvements that will lead to increased operational efficiency
  • Report on re-occurring issues, while actively engaging with relevant internal and/or external parties to drive the issue to resolution
  • Perform data analysis to diagnose test failures and propose robust solutions
  • Troubleshoot software/electrical issues with test equipment and test vehicles
  • Prioritize efforts to prepare the test automation platform for upcoming changes on the development roadmap

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or greater) in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related field
  • 3+ years of experience testing complex systems - automotive or aerospace background preferred
  • Familiarity with EV platforms and understanding of vehicle software architecture
  • Knowledge of chassis or engine dynamometer systems.  Previous experience operating such equipment is a plus
  • Proficient in data analysis and ability to read wiring schematics
  • CAN/LIN network understanding
  • Understanding of data acquisition systems and typical sensors used in automotive testing
  • Fundamentals of basic controls theory (open loop vs closed-loop controllers, PID tuning, signal filters, etc.)
  • Basic Python coding skills
  • Ability to apply creative and critical thinking to solve problems and deliver exceptional results
  • Good team player with excellent communication skills
  • Flexibility to commute to other nearby Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies facilities in the SoCal area on occasion (5 - 10% of the time)
