What To Expect
The powertrain architecture and modeling team develops a parametric vehicle model that is utilized for vehicle architecture design, performance evaluation, and decision making.

As a Model Development Engineer, you will focus on maintaining, refining, and expanding our vehicle modeling capabilities. This role includes improving the speed, memory efficiency, and accuracy of simulations. You will directly contribute to the success of the team by implementing advanced modeling techniques and ensuring seamless integration of updates.

What You'll Do

  • Advance the capabilities of and intellectual property of Tesla’s in-house powertrain performance model
  • Expand unit and integration tests to ensure stability and prevent errors during development and code merges
  • Optimize simulation performance by enhancing computational speed and memory usage to enable faster, more precise analysis
  • Scale up simulation infrastructure to unlock more compute capability
  • Build and maintain tools to help with pre and post processing simulation outputs quickly and effectively
  • Work with the model to produce repeatable and dependable results for various stakeholders within the organization
  • Develop a consistent framework for reporting progress of model and component development as components go from conception to prototype to full-production status


  • What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and basic thermo and aerodynamics
  • Hybrid or electric powertrain component model development and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with advanced model development, preferably in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with large datasets and complicated models
  • Strong communication skills and preference for working in teams

  • Expected Compensation

    $84,000 - $204,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
