In this challenging role you are our specialist and go-to person when it comes to VAT. You will have a lot of responsibility and freedom to build and improve your role, acting as our advisor on this domain and driving process improvements. Beside this you will have interactions with various internal stakeholders on Headquarter, regional and local level, combined with external stakeholders.
In this role you will be part of the Accounting & Financial Controlling team Europe, reporting directly to the manager of the team. The rest of the team is divided in 2 functional teams: Accounts Payable and Accounting/Financial controlling. The team is responsible for all Accounting, Financial Control and month-end close activities and has the ambition to become a high-performance team with a clear focus on being in control on all topics. In this increasingly complex environment due to our successful growth agenda, we are now looking to build an internal capability through a:
VAT Specialist
As our VAT Specialist you are responsible and play a crucial role in the correct and timely preparation and filing of our Dutch and foreign VAT returns, Intrastat and EC Sales listings. You have a good understanding of the international VAT rules, supply chain- and accounting processes in an international trade company and are a strong partner for the business and you can work on process improvements and adjustments in SAP.
The tasks and responsibilities are:
VAT Compliance
- You are responsible to prepare (with the assistance of the Financial Accountants) the VAT reports, Intrastat and EC sales listings, for the external service provider (who ultimately submits the data), for the following countries: The Netherlands, Poland, Germany, UK, Belgium, France, Spain, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Finland and Luxembourg You make sure that all sales are linked to purchases (trading company, correctness of VAT treatment in the total goods flow is important) and that the total flow is checked before submission of the VAT return to the external service provider. Errors are followed up directly.
- You make sure that the VAT GL accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis (incl. RVUMS in SAP)
- You have up-to-date knowledge on changes in VAT law
- Responsible to monitor the VAT calendar (submission deadlines and deadlines (pre-)payments
- Responsible to follow up on all questions coming from VAT audits, first contact person.
- In case VAT treatments of purchase or sales invoices are incorrect, you take immediate action towards the suppliers and / or customers and coordinate that necessary corrections are made timely.
- Responsible for the yearly pro-rata calculation and BUA calculation
- Training Accounting Department and Procurement Department on VAT treatments / flow
IT improvements
- You have good knowledge on how SAP works related to VAT (e.g. VK13 table) and are able to set-up new countries together with IT from beginning to end incl. testing.
- You are responsible to follow up on changes in VAT law which have an impact on automation/systems, e.g. E-invoicing, real-time reporting, SAF-T file.
- Our ambition is to automatize VAT as much as possible in SAP 4 HANA. You have experience in the automation of not only the sales flow but also the purchase flow based on decision tables and master data settings in SAP.
Advisory
- You are the primary contact person for all VAT related internal and external questions and are able to understand the international flows and translate these to the impact on VAT and the (automated) set-up in SAP.
- Sparring partner for the Procurement Department to set-up new flows (from a VAT perspective).
- Possibility to spar with external service provider in case of complex questions.
About You
We are looking for someone with driven person with the following background and experience:
- You have at least a Bachelor degree in Fiscal Law or Fiscal Economy with a focus on VAT.
- Experience in SAP on VAT flow and automation.
- Good knowledge of VAT within international trade flows.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a role as VAT compliancy specialist
- Excellent proficiency in the English language, both spoken and written.
- Experience and interest in working in an international environment
