Description
Engine Validation Engineer
Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To
Carry out Bill of Materials (BOM) management, releasing the BOM into Company’s BOM management system.
Manage receipt of full bill of material for engine assemblies.
Coordinate build schedule to meet Customer (Testing & Vehicle Builds / Others). Lead / support actual engine build in EBU and preparation in METS.
Support Dyno Testing.
Maintain build records of each engine and arrange disposition or storage as needed.
Successfully build and deliver Engine Assemblies to dyno cells for design verification (DV) testing and Mule level vehicle builds. Product Launches noted in section(iv) below.
Lead the Maintenance, Development, and Improvement of Test Procedures, Design Validation Plans, (“DV”) and Process Validation plans (“PV”) for Internal Combustion Engines.
Lead development and execution of DV and PV tests, and process validation tests based on performance requirements, core DVP, DFMEA, field issues/design issues and best practices.
Provide technical expertise in investigation of validation issues, root cause analysis, mitigation, and corrective action plans.
Review and publish test results to the greater team.
Conduct tests, recreate failure modes identified during validation testing, or warranty claims.
Create Incident Reports for each issue to ensure engineering team drives issues to closure.
Report out regularly to the Chief Engineer organization on the status and progress of testing. This reporting will continue weekly until the validation plan is completed and signed off by the Chief Engineer.
As testing progresses, the Validation Engineer will update the Test Timing Plan and the DVP&R document to ensure they are kept current on at least a weekly basis.
After testing, organize the post test analysis and teardown activity along with the project team to identify any issues or concerns.
Review reports with the Chief Engineer and file them in PDS.
Provide instructions for disposition, re-use or recycling of the test properties
A final review must be completed when all validation activity is complete to ensure all records are properly collected and stored.
Requirements
A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET accredited school or equivalent
A minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field
Understanding of automotive processes such as DFMEA and DVP&R
Familiarity with automotive engine design, components, and testing
Strong Interpersonal Communication, Team/leadership Skills/experience
Critical character traits to ensure success: Organized, Action Oriented, Dealing with Ambiguity, Customer Focus, Problem Solving.
Onsite at Client Location- anywhere from 3-5 days per week
No driving a Client vehicle required
Preferred Requirements
Advanced degree in with emphasis in engine development, control systems, or calibration.
Understanding of CAN communication
Working experience in creation and execution of validation plans for engine components.
5 years or more in design, development and / or validation of engines
Experience with engine teardowns and rebuilds
