Summary

Utilities Systems Repairer Operator Duties You will adjust and regulate water and sewage systems to maintain maximum operating efficiency. You will collect samples and perform basic tests on water and wastewater for quality control and compliance determination. You will control flow rate to suit conditions, rate of flow, concentration, and type of influent. You will use test equipment and measuring services (e.g., micrometers, precision levels, flow meter, hydrostatic testers) to perform work assignments. You will operate a wastewater treatment plant in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license. This position requires the employee to possess any applicable license(s) or authorizations(s) to operate assigned equipment. You must possess a state of California Grade D2 Water Distribution license. You must obtain an in house lab certification for sampling and testing. You must enroll in educational prerequisites for the Grade 2 Waste Water License. You must enroll in the state sponsored Operator in Training program (min 2000 hours). You must possess a state of California T1 Water Treatment License. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. Qualifications WG-11: This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Utilities Systems Operator without more than normal supervision, performing duties such as: 1) Disassembling, repairing and rebuilding component parts of plant machinery and equipment to ensure proper operation the mechanisms 2) Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, drawings, oral and written instructions; and 3) Using measuring and test equipment (e.g. micrometers, flowmeter fluid, precision levels) to ensure proper treatment of waste water. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion. WG-10: This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Utilities Systems Operator without more than normal supervision, performing duties such as: 1) Interpreting and applying the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop drawings, and blueprints; 2) Using and operating equipment and tools needed to ensure proper operation of systems; and) Applying shop mathematics sufficiently to perform assignments. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
