Position Summary:
The TRIO Student Support Services department in the Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success is searching for a TRIO Project Advisor. The TRIO SSS STEM Project Advisor provides intentional support services relevant to academic advising, career and graduate school exploration, personal well-being, cultural enrichment, and financial literacy education to assigned first-generation, low-income, and disabled students who participate in the TRIO Student Support Services programs.
Core Responsibilities:
Student Advising (40%): Provide exemplary advising services, as outlined in the grant proposal, utilizing intrusive advising methods to support student success and increase both student retention and graduation rates for program participants.
* Consistently communicate with students throughout the semester regarding their personal and academic goals.
* Effectively utilize the university student success management system
* Collaborate with university advisors to enhance services available to the students.
* Create a supportive and inclusive environment for eligible students.
Programming (30%): Provide relevant programming supporting the grant objectives to eligible participants.
* Assist in identifying, recruiting, and selecting program participants.
* Coordinate and execute workshops/events for program participants to support and enhance grant objectives (i.e., academic enrichment, professional development, financial literacy, graduate school preparation, cultural enrichment, and personal well-being).
* Include a specific task that falls under this responsibility. Collaborate with subject matter experts to enhance program offerings.
* Ensure students receive current content relevant to program offerings.
* Conduct ongoing evaluations of program offerings to assess student engagement and program effectiveness.
Teaching (20%): Successfully teach a semester-long first-year studies course for first-year TRIO SSS cohort participants during the designated academic term.
* Execute course requirements based on university first-year studies standards.
* Participate in professional development related to first-year studies training and course curriculum.
* Utilize instructional aides and university-provided course management systems to adequately support and enhance curriculum objectives.
Professional Development (10%): Engage in professional development to enhance job-related skills and remain knowledgeable of best practices and policy regarding higher education, student success, and TRIO initiatives.
* Participate in state, regional, and national TRIO associations.
* Remain informed of research and best practices associated with first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities success.
* Remain informed of research and best practices associated with higher education professionals
* Volunteer on university-wide committee(s) as a representative of FG/LI undergraduate population
* Additional tasks identified by the program director
