Summary

Job Summary Administers all aspect of the trauma services program in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director. The Trauma Coordinator is responsible for program assessment, planning, organizing, implementation, budgeting, performance improvement, education, marketing to referral centers, and out-reach programs. The Trauma Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the performance of the Trauma Services Program personnel. Responsibilities * Assumes the oversight for the Trauma Services Program. Establishing job expectations including competencies. Addresses performance and issues related to performance with those under his/her supervision. Oversees and maintains the budget for the Trauma Services Program. * Monitors clinical outcomes and system issues related to quality care delivery, developing quality filters, audits, and case reviews, identifying trends and sentinel events, and helping to outline remedial actions while maintaining confidentiality. This also includes the supervision of the Trauma Registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports and research. Using PI data to benchmark with state and national centers. Responsible for the implementation, review, and revision of trauma standards, policies, procedures, and protocols in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and monitoring and ensuring compliance with trauma protocol through the PI process. * Developing educational programs focusing on trauma care for the nursing staff, allied health professionals, pre-hospital service and the community. * Works with CHERI to identify researchable issues within the Trauma Services Program. Responsible for oversight, coordination, and participation in resulting studies and encourage and facilitate those findings into practice. Delegates and supervises the interaction of all members of the Trauma Services department, to assure that appropriate deadlines are met for the research studies timelines. * Monitor and evaluate, in collaboration with the Medical Director, the function of the trauma center related to: a. Care delivery vs. outcomes b. Cost at discharge for care delivered c. Appropriate and efficient use of resources throughout the trauma continuum of care d. Comparison of center functions with like-level centers e. Role within the state as a Level I Trauma Center f. Coordinate and facilitate necessary changes in the trauma center. * Prepare grant proposals to seek funding support for injury prevention initiatives. * Identify multidisciplinary issues and problem-solve those issues to provide optimal trauma care. * Develop and coordinate community prevention programs. * Coordinate the development and function of a trauma system quality improvement program to assure compliance with national standards and provide data for practice changes. * Manage the annual operating budget. * Supervise and coordinate Trauma Registry activities. Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and overall performance management of the Trauma Registrars. * Participate in the development and monitoring of the regional (state) trauma system. * Make decisions affecting public relations and community interactions in collaboration with Community Affairs. * Promote CAMC's expertise as a Level I Trauma Center; collaborate with Corporate Development/Marketing to seek/create opportunities to project a positive image of the Trauma Center in the media and community at large. * Function as a liaison to/participate in various nursing and hospital committees. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
