Position Summary:
The Transfer Center is recruiting for a Transfer Coordinator to join our team! The Transfer Coordinator provides programming with community college partner institutions, runs the Transfer Year Experience program for transfer students, supports VCU's dual admission program with community colleges, and provides transfer advising services to a prospective student caseload. Services are provided to undergraduate students from pre-admission through graduation in coordination with other advising units to facilitate their matriculation and persistence at VCU.
Core Responsibilities:
Run the Transfer Year Experience program (35%):
* Programming adjacent to Orientation to assist new transfer students in their transition to VCU
* Oversee student workers in a peer mentoring/advocacy program to promote peer-to-peer support between past and new transfer students
* Provide guidance and programming for National Transfer Student Week
* Coordinate transfer student outreach and retention campaigns with academic advising and other units, including FYE/SYE, You First, Campus Learning Center, Writing Center, etc.
* Track transfer student success rates, including historical underserved populations.
* Maintain TYE Canvas page.
Coordinate activities related to VCU's dual admission program with partner institutions (35%):
* Host or co-host programming with VCU campus partners aimed at providing a successful transition to VCU
* Provide advising services to dual admission students
* Serve as primary VCU advising contact for community college students in dual admission program
* Coordinate with VCU Admissions and VCU Transfer Center to provide information sessions to community college students
* Host visits to VCU campus by dual admission students and connect them to appropriate VCU resources
* Monitor academic performance and progression of dual admission students enrolled at VCU
* Assist with retention calls for students who do not persist
* Occasional travel to partner transfer primarily in the metro Richmond area institutions including Reynolds, Brightpoint, and Northern Virginia community colleges
Provide transfer advising services to a prospective student caseload (25%):
* Respond to transfer advising requests from prospective and admitted students in a given set of majors
* Schedule virtual, phone, or in-person advising appointments with prospective students
* Articulate new-to-VCU transfer courses
Other duties as assigned (5%):
* Assist with Transfer Center initiatives such as Tau Sigma National Honor Society
Qualifications
Minimum Hiring Standards:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
* Three or more years of experience working with college students in a college or university setting, including admissions, advising and/or programming experience.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to manage time, provide clear direction, and establish efficient priorities.
* Ability to work well with others throughout VCU and among transfer partner institutions.
* Ability to work independently.
* Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and Google applications, including presentations and spreadsheets.
* Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree in a relevant field.
* Experience working with college students in transition.
* Knowledge of VCU and VCU's admission policies.
* Experience with Ellucian Banner.
Other Position Details:
* This position allows for up to 40% hybrid work and has occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
* Occasional local travel may be required.
