The Tooling Manager oversees a skilled team of toolmakers, CNC programmers, manufacturing engineers, and team leaders, focusing on the production of high-quality precision tooling. This role ensures efficient workflow, on-time delivery, and continuous improvement in processes and technologies.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Supervise and manage toolroom staff and team leaders.
Optimize workflow to enhance productivity and throughput.
Develop and implement necessary processes and procedures.
Monitor schedules for assigned work centers and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
Review ERP data relevant to the department.
Troubleshoot machine breakdowns and coordinate repairs.
Oversee customer inquiries, quoting, tooling, and prototype development.
Manage inventory of materials and cutting tools.
Evaluate team performance, hire, train, and develop personnel.
Collaborate with engineering teams on product and tooling development.
Ensure timely completion of new tool construction within budget and quality standards.
Minimize repair costs by addressing design or construction issues.
Additional Responsibilities
Foster a motivated team environment and leadership development.
Work closely with Design Engineers to achieve cost-effective solutions.
Coordinate training for coworkers and apprentices as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities
Strong leadership and team-building skills.
Ability to recommend corrective actions and ensure follow-through.
Expertise in training and developing staff.
Education And Experience
Completion of a 4-year state-approved apprentice program or equivalent experience.
8-10 years of stamping and molding experience.
2-3 years of leadership training in a team-oriented environment.
