Summary

Summary/Objective:

An injection molding tool designer creates and modifies 2D and 3D CAD models of injection molds, ensuring designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements, while also providing technical support for manufacturing builds. Plastic Injection Molding experience required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and detail injection molds using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) based on customer specifications and part models.
  • Create manufacturing drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and other engineering documentation to support the mold building process.
  • Ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective to manufacture, providing technical input and recommendations for design modifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues that arise during the mold building process.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance mold design and manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and customers to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Assist in the repair, installation, and maintenance of injection molds.
  • Assist in quoting exercises for new mold and repairs of existing molds
  • Proficiency in using Moldflow software

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in plastic injection molding tool design, with a solid understanding of mold-making process.

Skills Required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with CAD Software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA)
  • Strong understanding of plastic injection molding processes, tooling, and material properties.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molding machine functions and set up.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills to address mold design challenges and production issues.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy and precision in designing and documenting molds.

Office setting (Can be hybrid once settled in)

Manufacturing floor environments

Controlled temperature environments

Travel:

Up to 10%
