Tissue Technologist
Job Description
The main function of a Tissue Technologist is to perform complex medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role requires a high level of expertise in histology, including staining, cutting, and embedding human tissue samples.
Job Responsibilities
* Prepare and perform gross examination of surgical pathology specimens: Conduct thorough examinations of specimens to identify and document pathological changes.
* Gross roughly 45-65 biopsies daily, with a focus on small biopsies: Efficiently handle and process a high volume of biopsies, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
* Prepare and stain frozen sections: Utilize specialized techniques to prepare and stain tissue sections for immediate examination.
* Support biopsies from GI, dermatology, gynecology, needle core biopsies, and skin ellipses: Provide expertise in handling and processing biopsies from various medical specialties.
* Data entry within LabCorp LIMS: Accurately input and manage data within the LabCorp Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
* Follow all LabCorp standard operating procedures within the laboratory: Adhere to established protocols and procedures to maintain laboratory standards and ensure quality control.
Essential Skills:
* Histology: Proficient in the study and analysis of tissue samples.
* Tissue processing: Skilled in preparing tissue samples for examination.
* Pathology: Knowledgeable in the diagnosis and study of diseases through tissue analysis.
* Laboratory experience: Experienced in working within a laboratory setting, following protocols and maintaining equipment.
* Microtome use: Competent in using microtomes to cut thin sections of tissue for microscopic examination.
* Staining: Adept at applying stains to tissue samples to highlight specific structures or components.
* Embedding: Skilled in embedding tissue samples in paraffin or other media for sectioning.
* Cutting: Proficient in cutting tissue samples into thin sections for analysis.
* Handling tissue samples: Experienced in managing and processing various types of tissue samples.
* Biology knowledge: Strong understanding of biological principles and processes.
* Lab support: Capable of providing support within the laboratory, including assisting with experiments and maintaining equipment.
* Lab equipment handling: Skilled in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $48.00/hr.
