Our long-term client relationship with NASA has a need for a Test System Safety Engineer to support on-going and future project testing needs within the Engineering Crew and Thermal Systems Division. The selected candidate will join our team with JETS II Teammate company, Nexus Solutions. This position is an integral member of the overall test team, providing guidance and analysis for various short and long duration test environments. Working directly with the test teams, the position develops the required analysis, including a test hazard analysis and failure modes and effects analysis, based on the test articles and test environment criteria, and presents as a team member for test readiness reviews. This position also develops facility hazard analysis for the test equipment and pressure systems risk analysis and assists with other Engineering Directorates when requested.
The Test System Safety Engineer will:
Perform trade-off studies, analysis, and systems interfacing, as well as performance and coordination of analyses, testing, and verification efforts
Analyze engineering concepts from requirements, mission needs, and/or system improvement needs
Actively contribute to the Jacobs safety culture of Beyond Zero and foster a strong environment of teamwork across all sections of the Facility and Test Department, as well as Jacobs and NASA customers
Review facility systems and associated support equipment, functional specifications, and operations, and establish risk levels and safety requirements for assigned tests and facilities.
Independently analyze and recommend safety criteria surrounding test hardware, system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards
Concurrently perform system safety engineering for multiple programs and projects, participate in project reviews, and ensure system safety tasks and responsibilities are identified and on schedule.
Create hazard analyses of facility hardware used in support of flight hardware testing using analytical techniques to include Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis
Develop hazard controls and verifications based on hazards identified
Research, develop, and present completed analyses to facility managers and Test Readiness Review Board
Perform other duties as required

Requisition Qualifications:

Requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2 – 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area
Experience in performing hazard analyses and safety compliance in accordance with JPR 1700.1, “JSC Safety and Health Handbook
Excellent communication skills and team-oriented approach
Strong problem-solving capability and mentoring skills
Requisition Preferences:
Electrical Engineering degree and extensive documented experience in a NASA or other space related environment
Working knowledge of NASA and industry safety codes, standards, and processes and their application in a facility test system environment is highly desired

Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Mainly an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on project needs, lab, and test environment visits. Little to zero travel.
Physical Requirements:
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time). Must have sufficient mobility to enter lab facilities and meeting rooms (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines:
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance:
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required. Telework is an option during COVID response.

Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
