The Opportunity
Lesley University is seeking a Temporary Core Faculty to join our Studio Arts department. The Studio Arts department requests the hire of a one-year temporary appointment of a Print Making Faculty who will additionally serve as the Studio Coordinator for the Printing Making Studio. This position entails a teaching load of 7 Units of instruction with an additional 5k (per semester) for studio coordination.
This position is integral to the department, providing studio representation and expertise essential to teaching, curriculum development, cross-curricular collaboration, and community building. The role combines teaching responsibilities with comprehensive management of the printmaking facilities, supporting the educational experience of students across the university.
The selected candidate will carry the primary teaching load for printmaking courses while providing expertise across varied printmaking techniques. Teaching responsibilities include training and orienting all print faculty assigned to print-related courses, mentoring student organizations including the print club, participating in curriculum development for interdisciplinary applications, and contributing to departmental initiatives toward creating a 2D-focused major concentration.
In the Studio Coordinator role, the faculty member will maintain and condition printmaking equipment, including regular cleaning and upkeep of presses, ensure studio safety and professional standards, and manage extended studio access hours for students (8am-10pm with additional hours for advanced/graduate students). The position involves coordinating 4-5 student monitors to assist with studio maintenance and operations and organizing and preparing the studio before each semester.
Administrative duties include managing the printmaking budget, working with the facilities manager to order and maintain all necessary supplies and materials, conducting regular inventory of tools and materials, collaborating with the Department Chair to organize visiting artist opportunities and workshops, and supporting student-centered co-curricular activities.
This position reports directly to the Chair of the Studio Arts Department and serves students from across the university's undergraduate and graduate programs.
Qualities and Capabilities
A successful candidate will have:
* Advanced degree in Studio Arts (or related media) with specialization in printmaking
* Teaching experience at the college level
* Strong technical knowledge of printmaking processes and equipment
* 2 years minimum experience managing a printmaking studio
* Excellent organizational and administrative skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
