The ideal candidate is responsible for advancing a portfolio of university technologies into the commercial marketplace through the facilitation of licensing agreements or assisting in the formation of start-up companies to advance the technology to market. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with university faculty to drive intellectual property (IP) development and technology commercialization. Acting as a liaison between university research and external stakeholders, this individual will harness University innovations to generate impact, secure funding, and create commercialization opportunities. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in technology sales, marketing and business development. This position will support a wide range of activities to contribute to the overall success of The University of Texas at Arlington's Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology Development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Develops and executes business development strategies by maintaining a portfolio of industry contacts and identifying potential partners aligned with University research strengths. * Cultivates strategic relationships with corporations, start-ups, investors, academic institutions, government agencies, private foundations, and venture capitalists to support research and innovation. * Leads negotiations and execution of license agreements with industry partners or via the creation of spin-off companies. * Manages a portfolio of invention disclosures, providing faculty guidance on commercialization pathways and evaluating market potential. * Oversees patent and IP strategies, including protection through patents, copyrights, and trademarks, in coordination with external patent counsel. * Implements licensing strategies, identifying prospective licensees and ensuring compliance with licensing terms and agreements. * Collaborates with Principal Investigators (PIs) across the University to understand research interests and identify commercialization, funding, and partnership opportunities. * Supports PIs through the commercialization process, including pre-disclosure engagement, innovation management education, and navigation of institutional policies. * Coordinates internal and external stakeholder meetings to align on innovation strategies and IP portfolio development. * Monitors licensed technologies from ideation to revenue, ensuring compliance and managing amendments or legal resolutions as needed. * Tracks and analyzes key performance metrics, including partnership development, IP revenue, and engagement outcomes. * Prepares and presents reports to University leadership on progress, achievements, challenges, and budget utilization related to commercialization initiatives. * Maintains and updates contract documentation in CETD's database, ensuring accurate data tracking and continuous process improvement. * Leads or supports strategic initiatives, including grants, sponsored research agreements, and corporate engagement across campus departments. * Represents the University at commercialization events, conferences, and workshops, collaborating on initiatives like Texas Venture Connect and I-Corps. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in business, science, engineering with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in sales and marketing, research partnerships, or business development, with a focus on innovation, commercialization, and partnership cultivation or a equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role. * Experience in a medical, technology, academic or research-intensive environment is strongly preferred. Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree. * Work experience in an industrial field specific to the assigned area (Pharma, Biomedical/Biotechnology, or Diagnostics) is strongly preferred.
