About the role:
We're looking for a skilled individual to drive operational excellence in our R&D function. This role requires a technical background in hardware development and involves a blend of project management and process improvement. The successful candidate will lead projects, implement process improvements, and track key performance metrics. They will be a champion for our product development process, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to the highest standards.
A day in the life:
Project Management
- Lead and manage R&D projects, ensuring on-time, within-budget, and high-quality completion
- Run project meetings, track progress, and communicate with stakeholders across departments to maintain alignment and project momentum
- Collaborate with technical managers to develop and adjust schedules, ensuring that clear plans are in place for technical solutions
- Identify and manage project risks and dependencies to minimize disruptions and ensure smooth project execution
- Drive stage gate reviews with project stakeholders to ensure appropriate documentation has been completed and risks have been managed
Process Improvement
- Work with leaders in R&D and Manufacturing to enforce and maintain Nanometrics’ product development process to ensure projects are executed with high quality and consistency
- Analyze and optimize workflows and processes to streamline product development and reduce bottlenecks
Metrics And Reporting
- Define and track KPIs for projects and processes to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement, informing data-driven decision making
- Generate reports and dashboards to communicate project status and performance, promoting transparency and accountability

What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline
- 5+ years experience in project management in a hardware development environment such as robotics, telecommunications, medical devices, etc.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
Assets
- Strong understanding of hardware product development lifecycles and methodologies
- Experience managing technical projects involving both hardware and software
- Experience with data analysis and reporting tools
