We’re now looking for a Technical Lead – Backend Engineering to join our Melbourne team and play a key role in evolving the platform that powers it all.

The Opportunity

As a Technical Lead, you’ll lead the backend engineering function responsible for ingesting, cleaning, matching, and enriching complex vehicle data from multiple sources. You'll architect high-performing APIs and automation processes that ensure our vehicle data is accurate, scalable, and valuable to customers.

This role is both strategic and hands-on. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to design robust technical solutions, while coaching and developing engineers across the backend team.

You'll have a direct impact on one of the most business-critical functions at AutoGrab – making our data infrastructure smarter, faster, and more powerful.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and mentor a backend engineering team with a focus on high-performance, scalable systems
• Design and maintain backend services and APIs hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Drive the implementation of data matching, deduplication and quality processes
• Work closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, Engineers and Product Managers
• Ensure seamless integration of large datasets from diverse automotive sources
• Contribute to technical strategy, system architecture, and roadmap planning
• Support our broader platform vision and data strategy

What You’ll Bring

• 7+ years’ experience in backend or data engineering roles
• 2+ years in a Technical Lead or Engineering Lead capacity
• Strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL
• Expertise in building and scaling APIs and backend systems on GCP
• Experience working with data quality, matching, or deduplication frameworks
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• A passion for solving complex, real-world problems through technology
• Bonus: Exposure to LLMs, machine learning, or Python
