Due to internal growth, we currently have a career defining opportunity for an APAC Technical Discipline Manager in our Geotechnical Engineering team. The team delivers engineering projects across SLR's market sectors including Mining & Minerals, Built Environment, Infrastructure, Industry, Energy and Power, with a focus on working collaboratively across the regions.


This role is a national leadership role in the Geotechnics discipline, managing and growing the current team of 25+ consultants across Australia. The role is diverse and provides a great opportunity for the right person to lead a national team, provide technical leadership in conjunction with our other team Principals, and drive innovative and sustainable project solutions for our clients. As a senior member of our team you will play a key role in winning and delivering a diverse range of projects and developing junior staff.


With 23 Offices in the APAC region and 1000 + Staff, SLR is constantly growing. We are flexible on location for the right person to deliver in this key role.




Responsibilities

Reporting to the Engineering & Design Service Line Director, you will be responsible for leading activities in Geotechnical Engineering to ensure successful project delivery, sustainable business performance and recruiting/ motivating staff.


You will have a range of responsibilities in line with projects, financials, behaviours and health and safety which include:

  • A strong focus on recruitment and organic growth of the thriving Geotechnical national team.
  • The ability to lead and build a strong rapport with the state team leads and senior team members across Australia.
  • Managing group financial performance through resource management with the Engineering & Design group administration team, team leaders and other technical discipline managers within the Engineering & Design service line.
  • Overseeing junior staff preparing quality reports for internal and external clients on time and within set budgets.
  • Developing, facilitating and enhancing relationships between our internal and external clients and SLR team members.
  • Contributing to winning work by identifying and converting opportunities and drawing on your existing client relationships.
  • Providing advice and assistance to internal and external clients, team members and Project Manager's on projects regarding best principles and practices
  • Managing your own individual projects within the field.




Experience

Our ideal candidate will have 10+ year's experience, including experience within a consultancy group, as well as:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or geology.
  • Experience managing teams of consultants across different geographies and project experience across multiple states. Ideally teams of 20+
  • Exposure to projects across multiple sectors, including mining and resources, infrastructure and built environment. Our work is varied and diverse, and you will be given the opportunity to lead future business development strategically.
  • Excellent communication skills and technical report writing.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large multidisciplinary projects.
  • Past contribution to the development of the regional business plan which includes assessing business risk, growth opportunities and resourcing requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated and ability to work effectively within a team.
  • A strong track record in building, nurturing and maintaining ongoing client relationships.
  • The ability to travel interstate to engage with the team face-to-face.
