Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Technical Assistant – Museum Collection supports the care, documentation, and interpretation of the Museum’s collections across all Arts & Museum facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records and databases, processing documentation for the permanent collection and all incoming and outgoing artworks, assisting with exhibition preparation and object handling, and contributing to interpretive content related to the collection. This role applies to museum best practices to ensure the preservation, accessibility, and thoughtful presentation of artworks and artifacts. This position reports to the MOAH supervisor.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with the detailed documentation of all incoming and outgoing artworks and objects, including the creation and maintenance of condition reports, damage reports, status updates, and associated images.
  • Edit and maintain collection records, including accessioning and cataloging new acquisitions and items in the permanent collection.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to acquisitions, incoming and outgoing loans, and transfers.
  • Generate reports from collections management systems and other databases as needed.
  • Administer the proper care, storage, and documentation of permanent collection items, incoming and outgoing loans, and transfers.
  • Monitor storage and exhibition areas for environmental conditions, potential hazards, safety concerns, and overall cleanliness.
  • Ensure compliance with museum policies, procedures, and best practices for the care, handling, and preservation of collection objects.
  • Assist with exhibition preparation, including the design and production of labels and didactic materials, display setup, and the creation of related condition and object safety reports.
  • Assist with the physical handling, preparation, packing, and shipping of artworks and artifacts as needed.
  • Contribute to interpretive writing projects, including blog posts and educational materials related to permanent collection items and archives.

Education and Experience:
