We are looking for a talented Team Lead, Technical Author to manage documentation and guide a team of technical authors. In this role, you will shape and improve the documentation strategy in a dynamic environment, lead a team of authors of various seniorities, and collaborate with experts across departments to deliver high-quality technical product documentation and assistance infrastructure aimed at internal and external users of our software.
As an active participant in multiple product teams, you will collaborate closely with engineering and product management teams to create resources that do not just document what the product does but accelerate a user from novice to power user.
Additionally, you will lead the technical authoring team, ensuring consistency in documentation standards, staying aligned with cross-team initiatives, and continuously improving workflows. This is a Hybrid role for our office in Zagreb requiring 2 days in office. In this role you will be reporting to the Manager, R&D.
Responsibilities:
- Leading and mentoring a team of technical writers, providing guidance on best practices, quality standards, and process improvements.
- Driving documentation migrations to new tools and templates, ensuring alignment with corporate branding and technical requirements.
- Implementing best practices in structured authoring, automation, accessibility, and localization.
- Overseeing the administrative side of the authoring team, including:
- Budget planning, ensuring the team has the necessary resources.
- Requesting and managing software licenses for authoring tools, localization tools, and other software.
- Setting performance goals and milestones for each team member, conducting regular check-ins and reviews.
- Managing yearly performance appraisals, providing structured feedback and career development plans.
- Participating in product teams’ scrum meetings, planning sessions, and demos to stay aligned with product developments.
- Writing and maintaining technical documentation, including user guides, release notes, and online help.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure documentation accuracy and usability.
- Managing multiple documentation projects, ensuring high-quality, on-time delivery.
- Using advanced authoring tools, such as Adobe RoboHelp, MS Word, and other documentation management systems.
Experience and qualifications:
- 7+ years of relevant industry experience in technical writing, with a strong understanding of software documentation.
- Proven leadership and team management experience, including mentoring and workflow optimization.
- Excellent English writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
- A degree in English, technical communication, computer science, or a related field.
- Strong technical aptitude, with experience working closely with developers and engineers.
- Ability to analyze and improve documentation workflows, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with version control and project tracking tools, such as Git, Bitbucket, Jira, and Confluence.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and structured authoring (MadCap Flare, XML, DITA, etc.).
- Familiarity with localization processes (Trados) and accessibility standards is a plus.
