The Newport Summer Learning Academy (SLA) will provide an in-person, 6 week literacy focused program intended to mitigate summer learning loss for Newport Public Schools rising 1st-4th grade students. SLA is part of the Reading Reaps Rewards (R3) Initiative which is a collective of summer programs across Newport that provide literacy skill building as part of their camps. SLA works in partnership with Newport Public Schools (NPS) to provide access to high-quality summer programming for students who need help making academic gains, multilingual students, and our differently abled students. SLA combines skill building in literacy and math with enrichment opportunities to make summer learning fun for students, foster a healthy relationship with school, and build students growth mindset.
Teacher Assistant
Support the SLA/EL Teachers and SLA Program Facilitators with daily learning and experiential activities, classroom management, individual student support needs.
Arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess duties.
TAs may be assigned to a specific classroom or may float between classrooms to support needs as they arise.
Qualifications
Certified para-educator certification is preferred but not required
Experience working with school age children in an academic and recreational setting
Experience with positive behavior strategies
Schedule
Full time SLA Teacher Assistants will work approximately 35 hrs/wk, Mon-Friday, 8:15-3:45 daily
Part time SLA Teacher Assistants will work either:
19 hrs/wk, Monday-Thursday 8:30-11:30 and Friday 8:15-3:45
or
24 hrs/wk, Monday-Thursday, 11:30-3:45 and Friday 8:15-3:45
