About The Role
At TaxRise, the Tax Preparer is responsible for preparing income tax returns for individuals and small businesses with accuracy, compliance, and exceptional service. Our Tax Preparers identify potential tax credits and liabilities, ensuring complete and timely filings while providing clients with a transparent and supportive experience throughout the tax preparation process.
Tax Preparers work closely with Case Managers, Enrolled Agents, and Tax Attorneys to maximize client outcomes and ensure compliance with all IRS and state regulations. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a client-centered approach to communication and service.

How You'll Be Rewarded

- Base pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour (full-time, 40 hours per week)
- Monthly Bonus: Average bonus potential of $500 - $1,400
What You’ll Do
- Prepare current-year and past-due tax returns for individuals and small businesses.
- Collect necessary documentation and record pertinent information for each case.
- Ensure client files are maintained according to company operating procedures.
- Review financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenditures.
- Leverage technology, government websites, and toolkits to find and verify accurate information.
- Prioritize and manage caseloads in a fast-paced environment.
- Prepare a high volume of simple to complex tax returns.
- Identify potential deductions and credits to ensure clients receive maximum tax debt savings.
- Work closely with Case Managers, Enrolled Agents, and/or Tax Attorneys throughout the preparation process.
- Protect client confidentiality by following all company information handling procedures.
- Resolve any technical or customer service-related issues efficiently.
- Support case managers by gathering and organizing information needed for tax returns.
- Package and mail out tax returns to the IRS and corresponding state agencies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
What You’ll Need To Have
- Minimum of 3 years of tax preparation experience.
- Active CTEC license required.
- Certified Tax Preparer and active PTIN holder.
- Proficiency in both business and individual tax returns.
- Prior experience in a tax practice environment.
- Strong knowledge of tax laws, tax concepts, Form 1040, and supporting schedules.
- Motivation to expand tax expertise—TaxRise offers programs to help obtain your EA certification.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Strong research skills and the ability to quickly find reliable information online.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and excellent time management skills.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.
- Strong customer service, verbal, and written communication skills.
What’s Nice To Have
- Current Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA license.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Bilingual abilities.
