Project Opportunity

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rails and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.

As part of the project, FCC is looking for a Systems Integration & Interface Manager to join our team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop Systems Integration and Interface Management Plans.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary internal engineering resources on the project.
  • Manage supplier provided integration activities.
  • Manage the successful delivery of mandatory interfaces.
  • Manage integration between different, new, and existing systems.
  • Engage with the Testing and Commissioning team at key stages of interface development to ensure success of the Testing and Commissioning program.
  • Interface with the Systems Design Team and others to determine schedules, monitor design progress, support systems integration, and coordinating the T&C activities.
  • Provide oversight and support for various stages of systems testing.
  • Develop the interfacing strategy and planning for completing the project interfaces’ activities of the rail project to ensure that those necessary interfaces’ activities can be accomplished in a timely manner throughout the project life cycle.
  • Be a focal point with interface works package contractors and designated interface parties and suppliers.
  • Conduct and chair interface meetings with the designated interface parties.
  • Ensure the deliverables of interfaces from the designated parties meet the contract’s requirements and standards.
  • Identify project interfaces through regular workshops with the client team.
  • Ensure the project interfaces’ requirements are tracked and controlled throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform impact analysis for the interface requirements and design changes and advise to the impact of the changes to management for decision making.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement and integration to achieve program objectives for scope, budget, schedule, quality, sustainability, legacy, etc.
  • Manage and offer real-time mitigation strategies in the interface resolution process to ensure that all interface conflicts will be addressed and resolved.
  • Produce Interface Management Plans, Interface Matrix, and Interface Control Documents for each of the project interfaces.
  • Create regular reports for the client on progress and interface resolution issues and mitigation.
  • Provide support and training for the project interface management team.
  • Supervises group of engineers and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the project.
  • Fosters a safety culture and is seen as a safety role model on the project.

Education And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience managing interfaces for a rail project, involving multiple players.
  • Systems engineering experience in the rail industry is preferred, particularly in a design/build project setting.
  • Strong knowledge in modern railway projects, including various components/systems that these projects are made of.
  • Knowledge of design and construction management aspects of railway projects, including interface and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Direct working knowledge of rail transit signaling systems, including knowledge of railroading, signaling, communications, and other railroad technology is ideal.

Job Requirements

  • Familiarity with AREMA, ISO, CENELEC, MIL-STD, and IEEE standards.
  • Ability to communicate with people of varying backgrounds and seniority in a multi-national project environment and motivate the project activities for timely delivery.
  • Professional registration as an Engineer (or able to obtain quickly).
