GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
SiloSmashers is seeking a highly experienced Engineering Technical Lead to join its growing contract supporting a federal government agency.
The government customer requires the expertise of an experienced Engineering Technical Lead to support its multiple engineering initiatives across all areas of the division. Specifically, the government customer is looking for a Technical Lead with experience driving to completion multiple, concurrent engineering projects and initiatives. In addition, the Technical Lead must have demonstrated success leading geographically dispersed engineering and IT teams, while driving engineering projects through the entire systems development lifecycle to completion on time and on budget.
The Engineering Technical Lead is a matrixed role supporting multiple projects and the successful candidate is expected to have the wherewithal to prioritize, clearly communicate, plan and tightly coordinate with a variety of stakeholders, while driving day-to-day engineering tasks to completion. In addition, the successful candidate will have had demonstrated success managing a team of systems, network and cloud engineers and architects. A high level of emotional intelligence, awareness, and ability to rapidly "read the room," is critically required to understand and adapt to a wide variety of personalities to draw the "best" out of teammates to get work done.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
* Proven success simultaneously managing a diverse team and their work activities
* Provide guidance to technical team, ensuring the successful completion of implementation projects.
* Experience designing, implementing, and managing systems for federal agencies in accordance with DHS policies and standards.
* Advanced expertise in Windows and Linux server administration.
* Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
* Proficiency in automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef to meet DHS S&T requirements.
* Experience with system performance optimization, capacity planning, and monitoring using tools like Splunk, SolarWinds.
* Strong understanding of networking concepts tailored to secure government systems (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs).
* Experience with secure network design and management, including routers, switches, and firewalls (e.g., Cisco).
* Proficiency in VPN configuration, load balancing, and WAN optimization for government applications.
* Familiarity with network troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark) and government-approved monitoring systems.
* Hands-on experience with federal cloud platforms such as AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or GCP FedRAMP solutions.
* Proficiency in designing hybrid cloud architectures in alignment with DHS cloud strategies.
* Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to meet federal requirements.
* Knowledge of cloud cost optimization and resource management to align with government budgets.
* Understanding of cloud-specific security measures (e.g., cloud encryption, IAM, FedRAMP controls).
* Strong knowledge of DHS S&T-specific security requirements and frameworks (e.g., Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM), NIST 800-171).
* Experience with government-approved security tools such as Tenable, Splunk, or Crowdstrike.
* Expertise in implementing Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions and zero-trust architecture.
* Familiarity with government risk management processes and penetration testing tools.
* Ability to lead incident response and vulnerability management efforts in a government environment.
* Demonstrated experience managing IT projects for federal clients, with an emphasis on system, network, cloud, and security engineering.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

* Bachelor's Degree
* Active TS/SCI Clearance
* At least 15 years in a team lead or Technical Lead capacity.
