Summary

Cool Ideas is an award winning South African fibre ISP and hosting company. The IT and Sys-Admin team are tech nerds at heart that love building cool stuff. We try to use our love for tech to drive us in creating excellent solutions to everyday IT problems.

Prospective candidates will work in the IT and Sys-Admin team and will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer.

Experience Required

  • Deploying and maintaining Linux servers and software stacks
    • Web hosts: Apache, Nginx etc
    • Server side languages and frameworks: PHP (Laravel, Symfony etc), Python (Django, Web2Py etc) Javascript, NodeJS among others
    • Databases: MySQL (MariaDB, PerconaDB), Postgres, SQLite, MongoDB
    • Extensive Linux server OS experience: Debian, CentOS, Redhat, Ubuntu etc
    • Building Highly Available Environments: MySQL/MariaDB/Percona Galera-based clusters and replication. SQL Proxy and Load balancing: Maxscale, HAProxy, ProxySQL. Apache/Nginx: load balancing, reverse proxies etc
    • Monitoring and Alerting: Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, InfluxDB, CheckMK, LibreNMS, SNMP
    • Mail servers and MTA's: Postfix, Proxmox Mail Gateway, Microsoft 365 Exchange
    • HyperVisors and Containerisation: Proxmox, QEMU, KVM etc. LXC, Kubernetes, Docker, Rancher, Portainer, Ansible
  • Microsoft 365, Sharepoint and Microsoft Power Platform:
    • As a Microsoft 365 Admin you will need to create users, groups and set up access to various Microsoft tools and software
    • Troubleshoot any issues with Microsoft 365 and resolve accordingly or log with Microsoft support directly
    • Utilise whichever Microsoft software and tools will solve applicable organisational challenges
    • Using Microsoft’s Power Platform, develop various apps and automations to ensure efficient organisational operations. Keep the companies various work-flow apps up to date and optimised
  • Networking
    • TCP/IP, IPv4 subnets, IPv6, Routing, DHCP, DNS, VLANS, Managed vs Unmanaged switches etc.
  • Hardware Experience:
    • Building and troubleshooting servers, Supermicro, Intel, Gigabyte, HP etc. Network switches: Cisco, Arista, Mikrotik etc.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and move IT equipment
    • Working outside of regular business hours for maintenance and upgrades etc.
Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus
  • Proven experience as an IT Admin or Sys Admin or in a similar role
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Linux+, Network+ etc.) are advantageous
