Classified - Position - IT Positions Job Number 3700258652 Start Date Open Date 05/07/2025 Closing Date 05/21/2025 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, this position performs independent technical, analytical, and supervisory work to support the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of critical systems. The role is structured into two primary categories: General IT Systems Administration which focuses on infrastructure support, computer and device management, directory services, and network systems, and Student Information Systems (SIS) Administration, which is dedicated to managing the division's SIS, ensuring data integrity, compliance, user access, and integration with other educational platforms. This position requires collaboration across departments, troubleshooting complex issues, guiding end users, maintaining high availability of systems, and leading or supporting implementation projects. General IT Systems Administration: * Administer and maintain systems management tools, active directory, group policy, application packaging, and endpoint configurations. * Analyze, design, implement, and support automation scripts and software deployments. * Supervise and coordinate activities of Network Technicians or other support staff. * Research, test, and implement new software, hardware, or configurations. * Troubleshoot server operating systems, network hardware, and application issues. * Maintain detailed documentation and ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs). * Coordinate help desk escalations and provide technical support for field services. * Perform other related work as required. Student Information System (SIS) Administration: * Manage the functionality of the Student Information System (SIS), including maintaining existing setups and implementing new features identified by the school board and leadership. Track changes through a project management methodology as needed. Maintain data integrity, user access, and group permissions in line with VDOE and district policies. * Conduct system upgrades, release testing, and regression testing; coordinate rollout of new features. * Collaborate with technology teams, school leadership and stakeholders to communicate changes and updates. Resolve technical issues and assistance to end users. * Monitor deadlines and progress for SIS-related projects and service desk tickets. * Consult with departments to ensure compliance with student records management practices. * Support integration with other systems such as Grade Book, ParentVUE, StudentVUE, and the Learning Management System. * Identify and implement improvements to outdated procedures or system workflows within the SIS. * Perform related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES This position requires a thorough understanding of system administration, including computer management, Active Directory, and network configurations. It also demands expertise in managing student information systems, with a solid understanding of K-12 educational operations. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage large-scale system changes, troubleshoot complex technical problems, and support a diverse range of users. Strong communication skills are essential for conveying technical details to non-technical stakeholders and for training users or junior staff. Proven experience with scripting, automation, system upgrades, and data security practices is critical, along with a solid knowledge of service desk operations and adherence to service level agreements (SLA). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required: High school diploma/GED and five (5) years of relevant experience in systems or SIS administration. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Relevant technical certifications (e.g., Microsoft, CompTIA, SIS-specific platforms). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Frequent sitting, walking, bending, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, and reaching. Occasional standing and stooping. Work involves moderate exposure to loud noises. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules. Entry-level salary will be awarded at the time of hire. Upon the return of employment verification forms from the candidate's current and previous employers, the salary will be adjusted if creditable full-time experience is confirmed.
