Summary

We are hiring a Systems Engineer to join one of our largest Energy/Utilities clients in Richmond, VA. This position supports the SCADA EMS system and Synchrophasor system used to monitor and operate the electric transmission system and other assets. In this role, you will work on system configuration, programming, and automation while connecting new technologies using various protocols, supporting a large Synchrophasor upgrade project.


This role requires a self-motivated professional who works independently and collaboratively with senior engineers. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical expertise, critical problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.


Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

· 3–5 years of experience in system engineering, system administration, or software development.

· Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems.

· Experience with C++ or similar object-oriented programming languages, and/or scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, Linux Shell).

· Basic knowledge of electrical operations, Phasor Measurement Units and SCADA systems.

· Strong self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

· Quick learner with a passion for analyzing and solving unfamiliar tasks.


Key Responsibilities:

· Support SCADA EMS systems and Synchrophasor systems across Dominion’s electrical system.

· Connect new technologies to existing SCADA EMS and Synchrophasor systems using diverse protocols.

· Monitor, tune, plan, design, implement, enhance, and maintain these systems.

· Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to ensure operational reliability.

· Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and maintain complex software applications.

· Formulate and define specifications for software programming applications and update existing systems.
