Summary

Sustainability Program Assistant in the DC-Baltimore region with viable transportation (bike/trike, public transportation, car not required but preferred).


Location: This is a hybrid opportunity with virtual and in-person responsibilities.

Agreement: Short-term contractual, independent contractor status.

Compensation: $15/hour for 5-10 hours per week

Duration: 3-6 months


We are launching an inclusive and interdisciplinary community learning experience that explores ancestral Africana values of Nature in the context of today's global challenge of climate change.


We are seeking a detail-oriented and community-minded Program Assistant (Consultant) to help coordinate logistics, outreach, partnerships, and participant engagement.


This part-time consulting role is ideal for someone who is passionate about sustainability, environmental health, education, skilled in logistics and outreach, and excited to help foster a welcoming learning environment.


Key Responsibilities

Lead for: marketing and outreach

  • Develop promotional materials (website, flyers, social media, email campaigns)
  • Engage with local community groups, schools, and businesses
  • Manage event signups and communication with participants


Co-Lead for: program tasks, collaboration with leads on:

Location & Logistics

  • Secure venue and manage scheduling
  • Ensure availability of necessary equipment and materials

Student management and engagement

  • Track attendance and participation
  • Facilitate discussions and interactive sessions
  • Support lead with student management, answering questions and giving feedback

Administration and reporting

  • Support in management of program budget and funding
  • Document progress and impact (surveys, testimonials, reports)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable requirements and regulation


Ideal Skills & Experience

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in community organizing, education, or outreach
  • Familiarity with event planning or program logistics
  • Comfort with tools like Canva, Google Suite, Eventbrite, or Mailchimp
  • Passion for climate justice, environmental education, or community building


Social media management 

Familiarity (comfortable, fluid) with the following platforms:

  • IG, TT, Fb
  • EventBrite, MeetUp
  • LinkedIn
  • Knarrative

Writing/content creation: social media posts

Graphic design skills (as appropriate for website and different social media impact)

Organization: record-keeping, transcription, documentation, publicity response via website, Google Voice, Google Drive, etc.

Website development and maintenance

Monitoring other publicity output (e.g., flyers) and responses to same

Community engagement and outreach
