SALARY RANGE: $55,052.00 - 66,838.00 ANNUALLY

BACKGROUND CHECK

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

PROBATION

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.

ELIGIBILITY

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

CLASS DEFINITION

A Survey Technician IV leads field survey parties, interprets field survey data and makes complex computations. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed indoors and outdoors where there is occasional exposure to inclement weather. Work requires minimal physical exertion; however, prolonged periods of standing may be required.

SELECTION PROCESS

The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity. It is essential, therefore, that you give complete and accurate information on your application. Minimum Qualifications

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have five years of experience in performing surveying work.

OR

(NOTES)EQUIVALENCIES: Have completion of one year at an accredited college in engineering technology or a related field may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.

Required Knowledges, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Knowledge of field surveying practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of drafting and reproduction methods.
  • Knowledge of land recording and conveyance procedures.
  • Ability to make difficult land and survey computations.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, topographic maps and real property descriptions.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle and operate a small boat.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
