Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical components development and qualification activities at suppliers. The job involves communicating well with internal and external stakeholders, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision making. The Supplier Industrialization Engineer (SIE) at Tesla is responsible for ensuring that Tesla's rigorous standards are met. SIEs work closely with various teams within Tesla as well as the suppliers (steel mills and processing centers) to develop production processes, validate quality systems, and ensure manufacturing scalability for high-volume production. The goal: delivering on time quantities of high-quality component parts into Tesla's production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches.
* Develop, implement, validate, and monitor quality systems at the suppliers to ensure products and processes meet or exceed Tesla requirements
* Work closely with dedicated Supply Chain Manager (SCM) to select appropriate suppliers by conducting detailed assessments of their manufacturing capabilities thru audits and/or benchmarking
* Guide suppliers in developing robust processes and implementing controls to guarantee production efficiency of metallic raw materials with less waste involved to promote cost optimization
* Drive production launch readiness and line qualification using Tesla's Qualification Process (TQP), ensuring Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and quality targets are met during production
* Provide inputs on new and alternative materials or processing methods for improved design, manufacturability and cost reductions
* Validate supplier corrective actions involving design and/or process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers
* Problem solving skills and deep dive into true root cause investigations and drive solutions based on data
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or evidence of exceptional ability, or equivalent experience
* 2 - 5+ years of relevant experience (manufacturing of raw metallic materials, aerospace, consumer electronics industries, automotive preferred)
* Proficient in performing drawing reviews, GD&T (tolerance stack-ups), understanding metrology and statistical data analysis (SPC, DOE, sampling plans, and basic CAD skills)
* Strong knowledge of quality systems, standards, and tools (ISO9001, IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, etc.)
* Ability to define and execute a project using project management techniques and direct supplier activities at the upper management level
* Excellent team building skills in dealing with peers, suppliers and other stakeholders from various functional areas
* Local and International travel with an average of 30-40% travel, possibly on short notice
