Student Government Program Manager
Job Description Summary
The Student Government Program Manager serves as the primary advisor and liaison for the Student Government Association (SGA). This position focuses on providing guidance, planning, financial oversight, and community engagement to support the SGA and Student Affairs. The role strongly emphasizes fostering relationships between students, university stakeholders, and the surrounding community.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Guidance & Support for SGA
Serves as a resource to the Student Government Association by providing guidance and support during meetings. Attends meetings of SGA Executive, Legislative, Judicial, or affiliated organizations. Advises on university policies, documentation processes, and governance guidelines. Provides guidance, programming and support for leadership development.
Event Planning & Community Engagement
Develops and coordinates events, initiatives, and outreach programs that promote student engagement within the university and the broader community. Establishes and maintains relationships with local organizations to enhance student involvement in civic and community affairs. Manages SGA events and the event calendar.
Financial Oversight & Budget Management
Collaborates with University Finance and the SGA Treasurer to oversee and assist in managing the Student Government Association Budget. Ensures compliance with financial policies, assists with audits, and provides fiscal oversight for SGA transactions, purchasing, and funding allocations.
Review & Oversight of Documentation
Serves as the lead reviewer for documentation submitted by Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and the Student Government Association, ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations.
Contract & Services Oversight
Maintains oversight of all active contracts, services, activities, and events relevant to SGA. Ensures contractual obligations are met and manages relationships with service providers.
Student Travel Coordination
Assists with coordinating student travel for conferences, competitions, and leadership development programs. Maintains records of travel requests and approvals to ensure compliance with university policies.
Communication & Relationship Building
Develops and maintains effective communication and working relationships with university administrators, staff, faculty, students, and community members. Acts as a bridge between student leadership and institutional leadership.
Position may perform all or some of the responsibilities above, and all positions perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Human Resources, or a closely related field preferred.
- One to three years of experience in higher education is preferred.
- In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Human Resources, or a closely related field preferred.
- One to three years of experience in SGA in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Demonstrated knowledge in student development and student government operations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong commitment to excellence in education, service, and student engagement.
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and to set and meet deadlines.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and disability backgrounds of students.
- Proven ability to organize and host events with a focus on community involvement.
- Strong, effective, and persuasive interpersonal communication skills to resolve problems and assess situations.
- Ability to coordinate and execute major projects and initiatives.
- Understanding trends, policies, and best practices relevant to student government operations and civic engagement.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is exempt, with a standard 40-hour workweek. Availability on weekends and/or evenings may be required, with appropriate notice. The schedule will be determined upon hire.
TARGET HIRING SALARY: $59,500-$62,000
