Structural Engineer (PE) – Future Principal Opportunity

Location:Dayton, OH (Miamisburg) | Hybrid Available for Cincinnati or Columbus Candidates

Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire | Hybrid Flexibility

About the Opportunity

A high-growth MEP consulting firm is expanding its services and seeking a Structural Engineer (PE) to build and lead its new structural division. This is a rare opportunity to skip the line and move directly into a principal-track leadership role, while still being hands-on in all phases of design and delivery. The ideal candidate is a confident seller/doer who wants to shape a team, drive business development, and be at the table as a future owner.

Founded by a respected engineering leader who broke off from a major national firm, the company has grown exponentially over the last 10 years and dominates the local MEP space. Structural work is already coming in—and now they need the right leader to take the reins.

If you’re tired of bureaucracy and ready to build something of your own, this is your shot.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead full lifecycle structural engineering projects: analysis, design, drafting, and documentation
  • Engage in client development and relationship-building from day one
  • Prepare drawings and models in Revit (must be hands-on during initial phase)
  • Collaborate with internal MEP teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and technical performance
  • Assist in hiring and mentoring future structural team members
  • Represent the firm confidently in client meetings, presentations, and site visits
  • Drive continuous improvement in technical execution and project delivery

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering with structural focus
  • Active PE license required (Ohio or ability to obtain quickly)
  • 5+ years of experience in building design (commercial, institutional, industrial preferred)
  • Strong Revit proficiency required
  • Comfortable with analysis/design software such as RAM Structural, RISA, or Enercalc
  • Proven experience managing projects and interacting with clients
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong organizational and communication skills
  • Willingness to "wear many hats" in a growing department
  • Experience in business development or interest in growing a book of business a plus

Why Join

  • Principal-level opportunity with immediate leadership potential
  • Transparent path to ownership for experienced candidates
  • Flexible hybrid schedule with outstanding work-life balance
  • Total compensation well above market: base + profit share + bonus
  • Direct mentorship from the firm’s founder and collaborative team
  • High trust environment with autonomy and zero red tape
  • Work across diverse project types and help build something from the ground up
