Summary

Our Client's Storage Engineering team designs, builds, and maintains the critical storage infrastructure underpinning their global trading success and research initiatives. They are seeking an experienced Storage Engineer in Chicago to manage and scale their diverse, high-performance storage platforms supporting massive data volumes and demanding computational workloads.


Your Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and manage global storage solutions focused on performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with research/engineering teams to optimize data workflows and storage usage.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex storage, Linux, and networking challenges.
  • Integrate storage with distributed compute clusters and diverse hardware (NVMe, GPUs, high-speed NICs).
  • Perform capacity planning, performance tuning (latency, IOPS, throughput), and benchmarking.
  • Participate in follow-the-sun support for critical storage infrastructure.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years in storage architecture/design for large-scale compute environments.
  • Expertise in systems like Lustre, GPFS, S3, BeeGFS, Weka, Ceph, Vast, PowerScale, DDN, MinIO.
  • Strong Linux engineering skills (bare-metal, kernel, system administration).
  • Understanding of storage stack internals (filesystems, block storage, I/O).
  • Experience with storage benchmarking and performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of storage-critical hardware (NVMe, CPU/GPU, PCIe, NICs, PMEM).
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or Bash.
  • Strong communication skills.


Desired Skills:

  • Kubernetes (CSI), Slurm, AWS/GCP, HDFS, AI/ML frameworks, Prometheus, Terraform/Ansible.
