Summary

Bindery Stitcher Operator Primary responsibility consists of operating a machine that binds signatures together with wire. Sets machine for collating correct pagination and 3-side trimming. Starts machine and positions materials appropriately. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within this field. Understanding of below Stitching lines, a big plus: - Muller Martini Fox 321 (6 packets) – from min to max size books - Harris Saddlebinder II (2 packets) - from min to max size books - Horizon HTS-30 (3-knife-trimmer) - from min to max size books Position reports to the Bindery and/or Lettershop Manager and/or Shift Supervisor. General Duties and Responsibilities: Read, understand, and follow work order instructions and pre-established guidelines to determine set up specifications and perform the functions of the job. Setup of stitcher according to height, width, and thickness. Gather and collate multiple pages and/or signatures for in-feed. Ensure quick and timely set up of bindery equipment. Operate and adjust caliper thickness station. Operate and adjust stitching heads and clincher units. Operate and adjust pocket feeders for each individual station. Operate and adjust the three-knife trimmer. Operate and adjust the bindery delivery section. Operates and observes machines to detect malfunctions throughout the production run. Enter production data into a computer-based Monarch Date System Follow and comply with all company Quality Control procedures and policies to ensure acceptable work. Ability to select, inspect, compare and confirm customer samples. Responsible for training and instructing assigned Bindery Associates during job set up through to completion on a case-by-case basis. As a team member always assist others when needed or requested. May be cross trained in other areas of the plant and perform other duties as assigned. Must be able to work well with others and function with limited supervision. Demonstrate safe work habits in a manufacturing environment. Job requirements: High school diploma or GED (preferred) 3-4 years of related work experience preferred. Reading, comprehending, and communicating work order instructions verbal & written. Must have essential math skills and read a ruler to 32nds and metric (mm). Ability to lift 50+ pounds routinely and operate control pallet jacks and non-powered material handling equipment (hand-trucks, carts, etc.) required. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and move between production devices to load and unload required. Bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting repetitively for extended periods of time. Must be available to work paid overtime as needed. Capable of working in various types of weather and non-climate-controlled environments.
