Job Description And Position Requirements

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

WORK SHIFT: M-F, flexible hours, rotating supervisor call

JOB SUMMARY:

Ensures that SPD staff are properly trained and operating within the guidelines set forth by various industry standards and regulations including, but not limited to HSPA, CBSPD, AORN, TJC, FDA, CDC, OSHA, AAMI and those of St. Tammany Health System. Performs various administrative training duties related to Sterile Processing employees. Travels to facility sites as needed to conduct training on all shifts. In addition, the coordinator will be responsible for assessing competencies for STHS and ancillary departments with instrument reprocessing functions.

This position currently has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, leadership and influence related to staff evaluation is an integral component of this position. This position reports to the Director of Sterile Processing.

This position requires full engagement with the staff. The employee must be able to fully function in all areas of Sterile Processing. This position frequently requires hands-on training with staff which includes but is not limited to working in the decontamination area and completing daily rounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent from 2-Year College or technical school preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years Sterile Processing or 1 year Sterile Processing Leadership experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Operating Room, Flexible Endoscopy, medical instruments and O.R. procedures.
  • Ability to interact and teach various levels of learners.
  • Must be able and available to work various hours as needed.
  • Working experience with Microsoft Office applications and instrument tracking systems; ability to learn additional software as required.
  • This position requires full engagement with the staff.
  • The employee must be able to fully function in all areas of Sterile Processing.
  • This position frequently requires hands-on training with staff which includes but is not limited to working in the decontamination area and completing daily rounds.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Sterile Processing Specialist or a Surgical Tech with the ability to obtain Sterile Processing certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) OR
  • Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within 12 months of hire. Leadership certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) OR
  • Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within 36 months of hire

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Physical Effort required:

Constant (67%-100%) - talking, hearing, seeing

Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling/feeling

Occasionally (1%-33%) - balancing, stooping
