About this opportunity:

Join Cenovus Energy as a Staff USVC Network Planning Engineer. In this role, you will lead planning optimization efforts across multiple business units, collaborating closely with Supply Coordinators, Refinery Planners, and a broad multi-functional customer base. You will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy of Linear Programming (LP) models and assisting in making informed decisions based on risk. For this role, you will be required to bring strong influencing skills, adaptability, and a highly collaborative mentality to drive value in a dynamic environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Own the planning cycle for two U.S. refining assets processing over 300kbd of crude, with an annual gross margin exposure exceeding $500 million
  • Develop and issue optimized run plans on schedule in accordance with the planning calendar
  • Actively participate in commercial, planning, engineering, and operations meetings to align strategies
  • Partner with the Analytics team to evaluate past plan performance and identify optimization opportunities through variance analysis (budget vs. plan vs. actual)
  • Collaborate with local Backcasting/Optimization Engineers to maintain and improve LP model fidelity
  • Work with Refinery Planners, Crude/Product Supply Coordinators, and Marketing to develop robust, data-driven plans including sensitivity analysis and short-term optimization scenarios (e.g., breakeven and margin analysis)

Who you are:

  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • 12+ years of experience in Refining, Downstream Supply or Production business environment, Commodity Marketing, or Products Marketing.
  • University degree or equivalent experience in Engineering with a strong preference for Chemical Engineering.
  • Previous work experience with IOCs or Western European Downstream companies.
  • Ability to build, use, and run Spiral LP tools for supply chain modeling.
  • Understand and interpret the economic impact of different Downstream Supply development options.
