Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer — Austin, TX (Onsite, CTO Track)

Description & Overview

A fast-growing startup is seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to help build and scale a white-labeled talent marketplace platform for flexible work. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious engineer interested in future executive leadership, including the potential to become CTO. The role requires full onsite presence in Austin, TX, five days a week.

Job Requirements

• 5+ years of professional Ruby on Rails experience (currently using Rails 7)
• Strong skills with PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, and RSpec
• Experience building and maintaining scalable JSON APIs
• Familiarity with multi-tenant applications or domain-driven design (or enthusiasm to learn)
• Commitment to clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Ability to collaborate closely with product and design teams
• Must be based in Austin, TX and available onsite Monday through Friday
• Interest in executive career growth, with the opportunity to advance to CEO

Day to Day

• Develop and enhance core features in a multi-tenant Rails monolith (onboarding, scheduling, credentialing, payments)
• Build internal tools for managing jobs, talent, timesheets, clients, and payments
• Design and maintain APIs for web and mobile applications
• Integrate with third-party services (e.g., Stripe, Typesense, Redis, AWS)
• Optimize services for high-volume workflows and real-time scheduling
• Create white-labeled features for recruiters, clients, and workers
• Work closely with product and design teams to address real user needs
